Assist. Prof. Dr. Hassan Ishag | Emerging animal diseases | Excellence in Research Award

Microbiology Expert | Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority | United Arab Emirates

Dr. Hassan Ali is a researcher specializing in microbiology, molecular biology, and veterinary virology, with strong expertise in transboundary and emerging animal diseases. His research focuses on molecular epidemiology of viral and bacterial pathogens, zoonotic disease surveillance using a One Health approach, genomic characterization of animal pathogens, and the development of molecular diagnostics and vaccine evaluation strategies. He currently serves as a senior researcher at the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, where he leads pathogen surveillance and molecular investigations, and previously held research and fellowship positions at BecA-ILRI Hub (Kenya), Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (China), and academic roles in veterinary sciences. His key contributions include the molecular detection and characterization of MERS-CoV, Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever virus, foot-and-mouth disease viruses, and antimicrobial resistance in livestock, supporting evidence-based disease control policies. His impact vision is to strengthen global animal and public health through integrated surveillance, genomics-driven diagnostics, and science-to-policy translation for sustainable livestock systems.
